When you see supermodels on massive billboards or in the pages of your favorite magazine, you may feel like there is absolutely nothing you have in common with them. In fact, this is normal, as many women seem to think models are a completely different breed of human.
While you may not be walking the runway anytime soon (although you never know!), there is plenty you can learn from the lives and careers of models that are entirely applicable to your own day-to-day existence. After all, what is on the inside is just as valuable as what is on the surface.
Curious? Thought so!
To help you become the best woman you can be and to enhance your life through the advice of other women, here are six truly relatable and realistic lifestyle tips to take from models.
1. Forget makeup! Look after your skin.
For many years, the beauty world has been so focused on makeup products that it overlooked (and almost forgot about) the vital aspect of skincare. Luckily, the tides are changing, and more and more women around the world are recognizing that it is better to invest time and money in their skincare regime than in even more matte lipsticks. Plus, the more you focus on creating the best skin possible, the less you will feel pressured to wear heavy and harsh makeup.
To get model-worthy skin, make sure you are removing your makeup thoroughly before getting into bed at night and applying sunscreen every single day (even if it isn’t sunny outside!). Moreover, remember to moisturize your face daily and do a facial steam once a week to help remove impurities and calm down your skin’s reactions to environmental pollution. Last but not least, each day, make healthy choices regarding diet, hydration, sleep, and exercise.
2. Find styles that work for you.
Spend some time scanning over off-duty photographs of models, and you will quickly come to realize that each one has their own particular style. Generally, models aren’t ones to follow trends; instead, they accidentally set them because they look so cool and confident in the ensembles they naturally put together. In fact, if you had to sum up their style, you would be hard-pressed to find a better descriptor than “effortlessly chic.”
For this reason, if you too want to approach dressing in the same way as a model, then it is essential that you bypass seasonal trends and instead focus on finding colors, silhouettes, and materials that work for your body, your lifestyle, and your aesthetic preferences. Often, the simpler the outfit, the more you are allowing your natural beauty to shine through and take the spotlight.
No matter how you choose to present yourself, just make sure that you feel like you – there is nothing more important than that, the supermodels said!
3. Prioritize your health and wellness.
To state the obvious, the lithe, lean build that we have come to relate to a supermodel is mostly the result of hereditary luck; however, that isn’t to say that each of those ladies doesn’t spend a significant amount of time prioritizing their health and wellness. From strict diets to hours clocked at the gym, these models will do whatever it takes to ensure that they remain photo-ready 365 days a year.
Now, you don’t need to cut out everything that is delicious in the world nor start sleeping at the gym so that you can fit in multiple workouts a day, but you really should be prioritizing your health and wellness. After all, you only have one body, and it is in your best interest to treat it with care and respect.
Some lifestyle changes you may want to make include eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar (maybe just during the week), practicing intermittent fasting, or finding an accountability partner for workouts. Of course, always do what feels right for you and your body and speak with a doctor if you have any concerns.
4. Strive to be a well-rounded woman.
The most beautiful women in the world know that their attractiveness doesn’t solely come from their physical looks, but instead is comprised of their brain, their kindness, and their confidence. Often, people are surprised to find out that supermodels are some of the most well-rounded women on the planet. For example, you have Karlie Kloss who isn’t just a supermodel, but also a very successful entrepreneur and committed philanthropist.
For you, being a well-rounded woman means constantly enriching your mind and your life. It means trying new things, traveling to new places, and doing as much as you can to get the most out of your life. Signing up for classes in your area, taking up a new hobby, or starting your side hustle are all realistic and relatable ways to become a more well-rounded person.
5. Always be looking for ways to further your career.
Modeling is an industry in which not many people can have a sustainable career for their entire lives. For the most part, whether they are an amateur or a supermodel, women who are involved in this industry look for other avenues to branch out into and to diversify their income. For models, this may be as a stylist, a motivational speaker, an actor, a designer, a blogger, or a makeup artist.
In other words, there are plenty of ways that a model can use their skills and insight to transition into other positions. However, this isn’t just true for those who have modeled; in fact, it can be true for any woman, no matter where you are starting. Even if you love your current job and position, it is still recommended that you be on the look-out for other opportunities and ways to increase your skill-set. Over time, these skills will add up, and you never know where you may end up working!
6. Believe in your abilities.
Last but not least, one of the most important lessons you can take from successful models is to believe in your abilities and work hard toward your dreams. While there are millions of people who dream of being a professional model, the ones who are actually able to make it are the ones who never stop believing in themselves and who keep working hard and perfecting their craft. They put themselves in the right situations and go for every opportunity that comes their way.
There is a good chance that you have a burning desire or a life goal that you are sitting on because you aren’t sure whether or not you can make it happen. If this is the case, take this as a sign that you need to stop doubting yourself and get to work on making your dreams a reality. However, instead of solely focusing on the destination, enjoy the process of creating your dream life, and savor the lessons that you learn on your way to greatness.
